From West to Bale, a ranking of the best movie versions of Batman

Who is the best Batman?

Robert Pattinson’s first foray as the Caped Crusader with The Batman is hitting theaters March 4. He’s the latest in a long line of actors to take on the iconic superhero, and early returns are good.

Reviews are praising the film, with Rotten Tomatoes giving the DCEU addition a “Certified Fresh” rating at 85 percent. Matt Reeves directs as Pattinson’s Batman faces off against the Riddler and the Penguin with the help of Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman).

It has a long run time — an impressive two hours and 56 minutes — but 92 percent of audiences have given the movie a thumbs up.

In honor of Pattinson donning the tell-tale mask, we decided to rank some of the previous Gotham defenders. Keep in mind, this only takes into account their performance as Batman, not as Bruce Wayne, and does not include Pattinson (yet).
