Freshman safety Jantzen Dunn has black stripe removed

One of a trio to have their black stripes removed on Friday, 4-star safety Jantzen Dunn.

It must have been a blast at Ohio State fall preseason practice on Friday because social media was ablaze with guys having black stripes torn off their hats. In fact, a trio of newcomers received the honor to be welcomed into the brotherhood “officially.”

Not only did Jordan Hancock and Donovan Jackson get recognized in a brief ceremony, but freshman safety Jantzen Dunn also impressed enough since he arrived in Columbus to shed his black stripe.

Out of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dunn was a 4-star prospect ranked as the No. 10 safety and 172nd overall prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. And now, he can walk into practice knowing that everyone can see that scarlet stripe in all its glory streaming down that iconic silver lid.

“I just want to thank y’all boys for mentoring me and — you know — sticking with me,” Dunn said after practice. “I love y’all boys. Shout out BIA. Go Bucks!”

Dunn has been a little slower to catch on, but it looks like he’s starting to recognize what it takes to wear the scarlet and gray. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. There’s no doubt he has the talent.
