Freshman offensive lineman Donovan Jackson loses his black stripe

We had a trio of black stripes being removed on Friday. One was a 5-star freshman offensive lineman.

We had a flurry of black stripes being peeled off of those silver lids today after another Ohio State preseason practice Friday. The first we’re going to highlight is freshman offensive lineman Donovan Jackson.

A 5-star prospect from Bellaire, Texas, Jackson didn’t arrive on campus until this summer. Having his stripe removed to “officially” become a member of the brotherhood in such short order says a lot for how hard he is working and the impression he’s leaving on the coaches.

“I’d like to thank God, man,” Jackson said in a brief ceremony. “I’d like to thank Coach Mick (Mickey Marotti), coach Stud (Greg Studrawa), and the O-line unit. I’d like to thank Rushmen for getting me better every day. Go Bucks!”

Jackson is expected to push for playing time as a true freshman, even with only landing on campus recently. He may not elbow his way into meaningful minutes right away, but as the season progresses, look for him to start flashing more and more.
