Four-star edge Colton Vasek sets commitment date

Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas appear to be the top schools in the running for Vasek.

Texas will soon learn the fate of four-star edge Colton Vasek.

The local Westlake standout announced via Twitter on Sunday that he plans to announce his commitment on Monday, Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. CT.

Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon appear to be the top three schools in his recruitment, but it seems the Sooners pulled away as the favorite over the weekend.

Steve Wiltfong and Parker Thune each entered a 247Sports crystal ball prediction for Vasek in favor of Oklahoma over the last two days.

The 6-foot-5 pass rusher recorded 56 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior in 2021. He is the No. 19 edge prospect in the country and the No. 29 overall player in the state, according to 247Sports composite.

If Vasek does choose Oklahoma, Texas will need to look elsewhere for pass rush help. It’s a desperate need for the Longhorns, and their top targets left on the board for the 2023 cycle are Braylan Shelby and Derion Gullette.
