Former Texas quarterback Shane Buechele declares for the NFL Draft

Former Texas Longhorns quarterback has thrown his name in the hat and will head to the NFL. Shane Buechele announced on Twitter.

When the 2017 college football season started, the Texas Longhorns had two top quarterbacks in Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger. Eventually, Ehlinger won the job under their new head coach Tom Herman. Buechele would eventually leave for Southern Methodist, much like Garrett Gilbert did years before. However, these two quarterbacks would always be tied together.

When Ehlinger decided to raise money to help those in need due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, Buechele did the same. While no announcement has been made many expect Ehlinger to head to the NFL after the season.

On his Twitter account on Friday, Shane Buechele made it known what his intentions are.

It has been an honor to finish my college football career at SMU and to have done it while obtaining a quality education and achieving a master’s degree. I want to thank the coaches, staff and fans for making my experience one I’ll never forget. To my family and friends, thank you for always believing in me and encouraging me every step of the way. To my teammates, my brothers…Y’all became family the moment I stepped on campus and that won’t ever change.

As I reflect on my years of playing college ball at Texas and SMU, all I can feel is thankfulness and an overwhelming joy and excitement for what’s to come.

With that being said, I am officially declaring for the NFL Draft. I’m excited to see where God leads me next. – Shane Buechele
