Former Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman has found a new landing spot.

Roughly two months after Herman was laid off from Texas (Jan. 2), he’s decided to make the transition to the NFL and is expected to join the Chicago Bears in a support staff role.

Ian Rappaport of NFL Network announced the news via Twitter on Monday that that the former Longhorns coach will serve as an offensive analyst for the Bears.

The Bears made the playoffs last year after going 8-8 in the regular season before ultimately losing in the wildcard round to the Saints. This was largely due to their defense which ranked 11th overall in the league.

Chicago’s offense (26th overall in 2020) has been the main focus of the Bears offseason needs in regards to the futures of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and wide receiver Allen Robinson. Herman will have his work cut out for him as the Bears look to return to the postseason, as well as improve on a disappointing offensive output.

Herman served as Texas’ head football coach from 2017 to 2020. He concluded his tenure in Austin with a 32-18 overall record and zero Big 12 titles.
