It is no secret that the Longhorns need help, and a lot of it at the wide receiver position.
Outside of true freshman Xavier Worthy, not one Texas receiver has proven that they can be a consistent playmaker on the field at all times. While the firing of Gary Patterson at TCU may help the Horned Frogs in the long run, it is currently helping schools like Texas in the immediate future, as a few of their highly touted players have since decommitted.
This gives first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and Co. another chance to get playmakers to Austin, and build a wide receiver class that can truly be special. TCU has lost four commitments in the past two weeks, and two of them are electric receivers that can certainly make a splash at Texas. The latest is four-star DJ Allen, who announced his decommitment on Thursday.

The Gladewater, Texas native is very similar to Xavier Worthy and would be a great addition to Texas’ 2022 class. The Longhorns have yet to offer Allen, but similar to the other four-star receiver that decommitted, Matthew Golden, Texas came calling shortly after.
Texas would likely be behind the eight ball if they were to offer Allen, as he, unlike Golden, visited multiple schools before pledging to TCU. Golden had only visited TCU, which could suggest that his recruitment is starting fresh, whereas Allen may already have a contingency in place.
Either way, the Longhorns could badly use a speedy playmaker like Allen opposite of Worthy to help transcend this offense for years to come.
