Former Penn State safety John Reid signs with new NFL team

Former Penn State safety John Reid wasn’t unemployed in the NFL for long before signing his latest contract.

Former Penn State safety John Reid didn’t stay on the NFL’s unemployment list for very long. Shortly after Reid was waived by the Atlanta Falcons amid a flurry of post-draft roster moves, Reid was picked up and signed by the Minnesota Vikings.

Reid was cut from the roster of the Falcons last Wednesday and was picked up by the Vikings 24 hours later. Reid has been with a few teams since leaving Penn State. The Vikings will be the fifth different NFL team he has been employed by in his professional career.

Reid was a fourth-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in the 2020 NFL draft, but he lasted just one season with the organization before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks prior to the 2021 season. The Seahawks waived him before the start of the season but signed him to the practice squad before moving him to the 53-man roster for the start of the 2021 NFL season. Seattle released Reid in October 2022.

Reid joined the Falcons the following month on the practice squad and was signed by the Tennessee Titans off the Atlanta practice squad in December 2022. His time with the Titans was short as he was waived by the franchise later that same month. He returned to Atlanta to be on the practice squad roster in January of this year and signed a reserve/future contract with the team.
