Former Panthers DE Haason Reddick finishes 4th for Defensive Player of the Year award

Just one season after the Panthers had “other plans” for Haason Reddick, the Eagles star pass rusher finished fourth in the AP Defensive Player of the Year voting.

When the Carolina Panthers went in a different direction last offseason, did they know they were directing themselves away from one of the four best defenders in the NFL? Probably not, right?

At Thursday night’s NFL Honors, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was named The Associated Press 2022 Defensive Player of the Year. And in fourth—with Dallas’ Micah Parsons and Kansas City’s Chris Jones making up the middle—finished former Panthers defensive end and current Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Haason Reddick.

Although he ended up at No. 4 in the final results, Reddick received the second-most votes for the first place nod with two—44 behind Bosa. Jones and New York’s Quinnen Williams also brought in one first-place vote apiece.

Reddick, who signed with Philadelphia after one season in Carolina, recorded a career-high 16.0 sacks. He also posted bests in quarterback hits (26) and pressures (68) along with a league-leading five forced fumbles.
