A little over a year ago, defensive lineman Mike Daniels was looking for revenge against his former team. Now he wants to re-join them.

In a recent interview on SiriusXM Radio, Daniels spoke positively about his experience with the Packers and the culture in Green Bay.

“I’d definitely love to go back to Green Bay. That’s my home,” Daniels said. “I’ve been there when I played there for seven years, I had a really stellar career there and that’s definitely a team I would love to go back to.”

It’s uncertain at this point the Packers would bring Daniels back for a second go. The team could be looking to upgrade along the defensive line but already have young draft picks from recent years such as Montravious Adams and Kingsley Keke waiting for playing time. If the Packers decided to bring in another defensive lineman, it’d likely be a run-stopping specialist.

Daniels is now 31 and coming off an injury-plagued season with the Lions in which he played only 204 (17.9 percent) defensive snaps. He averaged about 51 percent over his seven years in Green Bay. Daniels was limited to nine games and two starts and finished with nine tackles and a lone sack. He never had the opportunity to exact revenge on his old team in 2019.

The Packers made the surprising decision to cut Daniels in July of last year. The move saved the team about $8.3 million in cap space and, now in hindsight, looks to have been the right move.

Daniels states he has received a lot of “soft interest” from teams and is waiting for visits until facilities are opened again. The Packers have not been mentioned as one of those teams.
