Former Oklahoma RB Trey Sermon gets to play a season at Ohio State

There was a weird irony to college football in 2020, and it was associated with Trey Sermon and his transfer away from Oklahoma this offseason.

The former Sooners running back would be Oklahoma’s starting running back at this point in 2020. Sermon was the second-most experienced running back returning and Kennedy Brooks has opted-out, as well as a suspension coming down on Rhamondre Stevenson for the first half of the season.

Then, Sermon’s season was in jeopardy as the Big Ten postponed the season and wasn’t going to ‘revisit it’. A month or so later, Sermon will be getting play football for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The former Oklahoma running back was the first to get his black stripe taken off his helmet at Ohio State—a sign that a newcomer is ready to be a part of the program. Sermon nearly rushed for 1,000 yards as a sophomore before getting injured during his junior campaign and then transferring away from the Sooners.

Ohio State and Sermon will begin the 2020 season on Oct. 24 against Nebraska at 11 a.m. CT.
