A report surfaced Thursday that former Ohio State Football running back Mike Weber was auctioning off his Super Bowl ring he earned while on the Kansas City Chiefs. The ring popped up on Goldin auctions with a minimum bid of $35,000. As of writing this the current bid was $60,000. Weber got the ring about a month ago.
Weber was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and spent the entire year on their practice squad. When the Cowboys season ended, Weber joined the Chiefs’ practice squad in January. A few weeks later the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl.
So far Weber has not said anything publicly as to why he is auctioning off the ring. He was cut in May from the Chiefs and is currently a free agent. He was set to earn $610,000 before he was released. Interestingly, Weber auctioned off the ring on the same day the Chiefs signed Le’Veon Bell.
If you happen to have $60,000 laying around the ring is set to close in 17 days. Weber’s name is on the side of the ring and the ring has 255 diamonds and 36 garnets. Maybe we will hear why he decided to sell his piece of history, maybe we won’t.
