Some sad news hit Spartan Nation this week as former Michigan State Basketball player Lovelle Rivers passed away on Monday, July 6th. He was 66 years old. The cause of death is unknown.

Rivers played for MSU from 1972 to 1976 and appeared in 44 games during that time. In 1975, Rivers won Michigan State’s Sportsmanship Award.

Former Michigan State star and teammate to Lovelle Rivers, Greg Kelser, made a statement on Rivers’ passing:

“Lovelle was a great teammate,” said Greg Kelser. “He was my roommate on the road when I was a freshman and he was a senior. Even though I was taking away some minutes from him, he always tried to help me be a better player. That speaks volumes of his character.”
