Former Celtic Greg Monroe signs 10-day with Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of matchup

Former Boston Celtic center Greg Monroe has signed a short-term deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, shortly before the two teams face off.

Former Boston Celtic and longtime Milwaukee Buck Greg Monroe has signed a 10-day contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the Celtics matchup with the Wolves. He is one of many veterans being scooped up by teams as the NBA is dealing with a rise in COVID-19 cases in many organizations. The two teams face off at 8 p.m. eastern at TD Garden Monday.

Monroe spent parts of two seasons with the Celtics, playing a total of 28 games between 2017-18 and 2018-19 — the last year he logged NBA minutes until now. In his time in Boston, Monroe averaged 9.7 points and six rebounds per game off the bench. He has also played for five other organizations, in addition to Minnesota, spending five seasons with the Detroit Pistons.

Monroe has played 12 games for the Capital City Go-Go, G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, this season. Monroe averaged 10.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in the G League this season.
