Marcus Freeman is the defensive coordinator for Notre Dame, and he is absolutely killing it on the recruiting trail. Freeman is already being labeled as an elite recruiter, and the Twitter rumblings have him as next in line for the next major head coaching gig.
Most people know Freeman as the defensive coordinator for the Irish, but Buckeye fans remember the former linebacker due to his time in Columbus from 2004-2008. He was named All-Big Ten during his collegiate career. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2009 draft, but was forced to retire early due to a heart condition.
Freeman started his coaching career with Ohio State as a grad assistant in 2010 and has quickly made his way up the ladder. He was working as the defensive coordinator for Luke Fickell at Cincinnati from 2017-2020 and was phenomenal enough to get a bump to his current role at Notre Dame.
Since arriving in South Bend, Freeman has snagged eight commitments for the university, including six four-stars. His most recent pull was a five-star in the class of 2023 out of Ohio, Brenan Vernon, and this is the kind of get that should have the Buckeyes shaking in fear.
In just 6 months Marcus Freeman has changed the narrative of Notre Dame recruiting.
ND signed one 5-star COMBINED in their last 8 recruiting classes! They could sign 3-4 in 2023.
No joke, ND should probably begin preliminary head coach "in-waiting" discussions with Marcus. https://t.co/werkL3FJ7E

It’s nice to see a former Buckeye excelling in the coaching profession, we just wish he was doing it on the banks of the Olentangy.
