The New York Giants decided to part ways with former Alabama wide receiver Cam Sims on Tuesday afternoon. Sims signed with the Giants practice squad on Sept. 4.
The Louisiana native spent four seasons at Alabama from 2014-2017. Sims was a member of two national championship teams. Over the course of his Alabama career, Sims managed to reel in 41 receptions for 467 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Following the conclusion of his senior season, Sims chose to enter the 2018 NFL draft. After going undrafted, Sims signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent.
Sims would go on to spend the next five seasons with the Commanders. He made 17 starts and played in 55 games for the Commanders. Sims hauled in 57 receptions for 804 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Following his first five years in the NFL, Sims went on to sign a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.
He spent roughly five months with the team before being released. Soon after, he was signed to the Giants practice squad and is now looking for his third home in eight months. It will be interesting to see if Sims receives a practice squad opportunity or is added to an active roster in the coming weeks or possibly even months.
The #Giants opened the window for WR Cole Beasley to return, per the transaction wire. Restored him to the practice squad.
Released CB Amani Oruwariye and WR Cam Sims from the practice squad.
