It seems coach Jay Johnson’s recruiting pitch to transfer portal players at the College World Series may have worked.
On Friday night, LSU landed its second pitching transfer commitment of the cycle in former Alabama right-hander [autotag]Kade Woods[/autotag]. The redshirt freshman is a native of Monroe, Louisiana, and will be returning to his home state after two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Woods appeared in 17 games this season with one start. He finished with a 4-1 record, a 5.52 earned run average in 29.1 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts, which led the bullpen.
His last outing came in the super regional against Wake Forest in which he struggled, allowing three runs in less than a full inning before he was yanked.

Still, this is a great pickup for LSU’s bullpen. Woods redshirted in 2022 while coming back from injury, so he’ll still have three remaining seasons of eligibility.
Woods becomes the second pitcher to commit to LSU as a transfer, joining Xavier’s [autotag]Justin Loer[/autotag].
