Florida basketball is getting set for its first NCAA Tournament action in three years. Now that the play-in game on Wednesday night determined that the Colorado Buffaloes will face the Gators, the opening matchup is finally set.
Using the Basketball Power Index, ESPN is giving the Gators a 62.6% win probability and a projection to come out victorious by 3.5 points over the Buffaloes. The matchup quality earns an 88.4-point grade, making it the fourth-highest-rated game on Friday.
“BPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward,” the site reads. “BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is… Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections.”
Florida is ranked No. 29 in the NET rankings, while Colorado is No. 25. However, the Orange and Blue are the higher seed, coming in at No. 7 while the Buffs are a No. 10 seed in the tournament thanks to their play-in win.
The Gators take on the Buffaloes in the first round on Friday, March 22, at 4:30 p.m. ET inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The game will be broadcast on TBS.
