Five-star WR Evan Stewart commits to Texas A&M over Texas, Alabama

Ouch.

Texas suffered a tough blow on the recruiting trail Monday evening.

Five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart, widely viewed as the top prospect on Texas’ board for the 2022 recruiting class, announced his commitment to Texas A&M via Instagram.

Stewart is rated the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Texas and the top wide receiver in the country for the 2022 cycle, according to 247Sports.

The Frisco native was once committed to the Longhorns for about a month earlier this year, and although Steve Sarkisian’s staff kept in consistent contact with Stewart, Jimbo Fisher was ultimately able to land the generational talent.

It’s by far one of the biggest recruiting wins for Fisher and Texas A&M, but a crucial blow for the Longhorns. After an underwhelming season and essentially a rebuild taking place in Austin, landing a player of this nature would have catapulted the program to new heights.

With a few coaching staff changes expected in the near future, it makes you wonder if wide receiver coach Andre Coleman’s time on the Forty Acres is coming to a close.

Steve Sarkisian will now likely have to dip into the transfer portal to find immediate help at the position.
