Five-star LB Harold Perkins, four-star WR Brenen Thompson will visit Texas on Saturday

Texas will have a couple of highly rated recruits on campus for the Rice game on Sept. 18.

Two highly rated prospects in the 2022 recruiting class will be on campus Saturday as Texas takes on Rice in Week 3.

Five-star linebacker Harold Perkins and four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson will make the trip to Austin on Sept. 18. Perkins will be on an unofficial visit as he already an official visit to Texas in June, while Thompson will be taking his official visit this weekend.

Both Perkins and Thompson are considered must-get recruits for Texas in the 2022 cycle. In each of these recruitments, Steve Sarkisian will have to hold off Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies.

Thompson recently released a top three schools list of Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M. The speedy wide receiver is rated the No. 11 player at his position for the 2022 cycle and the No. 15 prospect in the state of Texas. He earned Texas Sports Writers Association 3A first-team all-state selection (all-purpose player) as a junior, and also runs track for Spearman High School.

Perkins is the least likely of the two to end up in Austin, but Texas is very much still in the mix. The Aggies are currently favored to land the nation’s No. 1 linebacker in the 2022 class, therefore getting Perkins back on campus is crucial for the Longhorns.

In 2020, Perkins compiled 47 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles for Cy Park High School. He also contributed on the offensive side of the ball with 96 carries for 983 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The two prospects should be in for a treat as Texas is expected to defeat Rice in convincing fashion.
