Five-star CB Denver Harris to announce commitment on National Signing Day

One of Texas’ top defensive priorities will take it all the way.

There may not be a more important defensive target on Texas’ recruiting board than five-star Denver Harris. Defensive back coach Terry Joseph and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski have been working hard on the North Shore product.

According to CJ Vogel of The Football Brainiacs, Harris is set to announce his commitment on National Signing Day. The five-star originally teased a commitment on his 18th birthday of Sept. 22.

Texas was able to push back the date with an unofficial visit this past weekend. Getting a 35 point win over Texas Tech was a huge benefit for Steve Sarkisian’s staff. Closing on the top defensive target is the No. 1 priority going forward.

For Harris, Alabama remains the biggest competitor, while LSU and Texas A&M hang in the balance.

Harris has been suffering from a knee injury and has yet to play during his senior season. Once he does, programs around the country will reaffirm him as the top defensive prospect in the nation.

Nick Saban has personally recruited Harris, showing he is one of the best defensive backs overall. If Texas is going up against the Alabama head coach, a difficult task is ahead.

Getting an official visit during the month of June can do nothing but help the Longhorns. However, another unofficial visit with a solid defensive performance would help Texas’ chances.

On the 247Sports composite, Harris ranks as the No. 9 overall player and the No. 2 player within the state of Texas. At the cornerback position, the five-star ranks as the No. 3 prospect.

All eyes will be on Harris as he announces his commitment in December.
