After months of speculation, and finally trading Darius Slay to Philadelphia, with their third pick of the draft, the Detroit Lions picked cornerback Jeff Okudah from Ohio State.
Here are a few things to know about their newest player (Thanks to The Players Tribune for the info!)
- His mother had been battling lymphoma for most of Jeff’s life. She passed away a few days after he got to Ohio State in 2017. Running back J.K. Dobbins was instrumental in helping him deal with his grief.
- He is a communication major in college and took three years of Swahili in college. He says he’s preparing for life after football. Possible journalist?
- He’s looked up to players like Jalen Ramsey, Darrell Revis, and has been close with… Darius Slay.
- His main goal was to be the Best In America (BIA) at cornerback when he was in college. He did just that. And not only is he the best cornerback in America, but he’s also one of the best cornerbacks in Ohio State history.
- He had a torn labrum for 2 years. He finally had surgery on it in January of his sophomore year. He feels that the time he spent rehabbing made him that much better of a player and person.
