Final Fantasy pixel remasters seemingly heading to PS4 and Switch

Classics like Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 might be on modern consoles soon.

The Final Fantasy pixel remasters are likely arriving on consoles at long last.

As spotted by industry insider Wario64, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) just gave product ratings for pixel remasters of Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6. More specifically, for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of those games. Publisher Square Enix hasn’t made an announcement about these titles releasing on consoles, but it’s practically a forgone conclusion now.

Many speculate that Square Enix will announce these ports sometime during the Final Fantasy 35th anniversary event on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022. It’s obviously not certain, but the stage sure would be appropriate.

Check out the actual ESRB listings for yourself below.

These pixel remasters originally came out on PC earlier this year. Unlike the previous mobile and Nintendo DS ports of these games, the pixel remasters have art styles closer to the original SNES releases. Fans tend to think that these are the definitive versions of each game, mainly since the original SNES and PS1 versions are so challenging to track down. Each tends to be wildly expensive on online storefronts like eBay, too, so avoiding that whole mess is undoubtedly a bonus.
