Fantasy football: Where to draft Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz

Analyzing Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz is on his 3rd team in 3 years after transforming from the franchise guy in Philly to a gun for hire. He was traded to Indianapolis to be a starter. That lasted one season.

Now, he comes D.C. to be a starter. If he doesn’t succeed there, his next stop likely will be as a backup. Below, we look at Carson Wentz’s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Wentz has the ability to be a solid quarterback, but his history has been tied more to failure than success. He was injured late in the season when the Eagles won Super Bowl LII. So, it was backup QB Nick Foles (now with the Colts) steering the offense during the title run.

Wentz was brutal in his last season with Philly and a Week 18 loss to hapless Jacksonville kept Indy out of the playoffs and led to his ouster. Few players have more to prove (or more to lose) this season than Wentz.

Carson Wentz’s ADP: 144.77

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Wentz is the 23rd-ranked quarterback when it comes to ADP, which puts him in the undrafted category in 10-player leagues and on the very end of draftees in 12-player leagues.

He finds himself in the scrap heap of fantasy QBs currently behind Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) with an ADP at 134.73, Jameis Winston (New Orleans Saints) at 140.00 and in the same basic spot as Davis Mills (Houston Texans) at 144.94 and Baker Mayfield (Carolina Panthers) at 151.94.

Where should you draft Wentz?

The long and the short of it is that, unless you really think Wentz is going to shock the world, you don’t draft him.

His 2021 numbers with the Colts were solid for a No. 2 fantasy QB, but now with a worse offense in the Commanders, last season’s stats are likely the high-water mark for what his 2022 expectations should be.

Ideally, those who end up with Wentz likely have Buffalo QB Josh Allen or Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes as their starter and Wentz is ideally on a roster to step in only when QB1 is in his bye week. For that, you can find a guy on the waiver wire with a good matchup.
