Fantasy football: Where to draft Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry

There are few players in the NFL that have been as dominant at their position as Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has been at his. Yet, because he is more one-dimensional — capable of 30 carries, but not a consistent receiving threat — his value is routinely diminished.

Below, we look at Derrick Henry‘s 2023 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Henry has topped 1,500 rushing yards in 3 of the last 4 seasons, one time hitting the 2,000 rushing yard mark, and was on pace to rush for 1,991 yards in an injury-shortened 2021 season. He has scored 58 total touchdowns in that 55-game span, proving to be one of the most overpowering fantasy players on a week-in, week-out basis.

Derrick Henry’s ADP: 19.75

The Titans have run their offense through Henry for years and he has consistently delivered. He has proved durable with the exception of missing 9 games in 2021 and when he is on the field, he is expected to carry the ball 20 times or more week after week.

Because he doesn’t provide a ton of production as a receiver (his 33 receptions for 398 yards last year shattered his previous highs), his ADP finds well him behind backs who are more dual threats such as New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (13.95) and Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb (15.28) and only slightly ahead of unproven full-time backs like Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard (20.83) and Detroit Lions rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs (26.74).

Where should you draft Henry?

It’s understood that Henry will never catch 50 or more passes like the players ranked in front of him, but nobody can touch what he has done in 4 years as a full-time starter in Tennessee. An average game for Henry is 23 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown — impressive considering that spans 55 games.

He has led the league in rushing attempts in 3 of the last 4 seasons, but that hasn’t diminished his effectiveness. His current ADP ranking as the RB6 is the absolute lowest he should be considered. Given his production and consistency, once top-ranked RB Christian McCaffrey comes off the board, Henry should be in the discussion of who is the next running back to go.

While cases can be made for the players in front of him, anyone who has had Henry on their rosters over the last 4 years knows that he is capable of almost single-handedly winning a week for fantasy players because of his immense workload. If he stays healthy and you can get him as the RB6, he will be a gift.
