Fantasy football draft: Where to target Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield

Analyzing Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield’s 2021 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield helped the team make the playoffs, leading a balance offense while posting big-time fantasy numbers. Below, we look at Baker Mayfield‘s 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Mayfield actually had a career-low in passing yardage last season, but he picked up the pace in completion percentage and he was able to chop down his mistakes. In fact, Mayfield ended up with his best-ever QB Rating, he had a career-low eight interceptions and, more importantly, he led the team to the postseason.

Mayfield’s ADP: 77.46

While Mayfield might have led the Browns to the playoffs, he isn’t going to single-handedly lead many managers to the fantasy promised land. He has been the 22nd quarterback off the board on draft day in all formats, and 17th in redraft leagues, landing squarely in the neighborhood of QB2.

He is mostly a backup worth playing when the matchup is favorable, when your primary guy is hurt or on a bye.

Where should you take Mayfield in your fantasy football draft?

Mayfield has been routinely drafted as a backup in leagues of 12 or more teams. Unless he is able to make a jump into the 4,000-yard neighborhood, or throw for 30 or more touchdowns in a season, QB2 in fantasy leagues is where he’ll remain.

Perhaps he’ll see a jump in numbers with the return of WR Odell Beckham Jr. from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski seemed pleased to run the ball down the throat of the opposition with the combination of RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

I’ve never been a fan of selecting quarterbacks early on draft day, and I’ve never been a fan drafting multiple quarterbacks.

You will likely be able to scoop up Mayfield from the waiver wire during the season as a free agent. If you have an injury-prone starter, or want an insurance policy drafting someone like Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, then Mayfield is worth rostering.

I think he’ll outperform the likes of Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan and Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins, two quarterbacks he is behind in the ADP list.

Just don’t expect Mayfield to ascend into the QB1 range. Don’t even think about Mayfield until at least Round 9 or beyond.
