Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery posted his first-career 1,000-yard rushing season in 2020 and he found the end zone a total of 10 times. Below, we look at David Montgomery‘s 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.
Montgomery averaged a healthy 4.3 yards per rushing attempt last season, which was a jump of more than a half-yard per tote from his rookie year. Not only did he jump in the rushing category, but he was way more effective catching the ball out of the backfield, too.
The former Iowa State standout had 54 receptions on 68 targets, which was more than double his rookie season, and it all came in one less game played. He even cut his total fumbles in half, yet for some reason, fantasy managers aren’t ready to trust Montgomery quite just yet.
What else does a guy have to do?
Montgomery’s ADP: 46.52
(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com)
The ADP for Montgomery is a little on the disrespectful side as this guy posted more than 1,000 yards on the ground, over 1,500 total scrimmage yards and a total of 10 touchdowns with just one lost fumble in 2020.
Is the Bears’ addition of RB Damien Williams scaring fantasy managers? Is it rookie RB Khalil Herbert?
There is really no reason Montgomery shouldn’t be considered a low-end RB1 fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams, especially in PPR.

Montgomery’s 2020 stats
Rushing: 247 carries for 1,070 yards
Receiving: 54 receptions for 438 yards
Touchdowns: 8 rushing/2 receiving
Fumbles: 1 total (1 lost)
Where should you take Montgomery in your fantasy football draft?
There seems to be an air of disrespect and doubt regarding Montgomery. This guy posted over 1,500 total scrimmage yards, and he is entering just his third year in the NFL, which should be cause for excitement that he’ll take another step forward.
Montgomery carried people to fantasy championships last season, finding the end zone at least once in each of his final six games, totaling seven rushing scores and one receiving touchdown. During that stretch he ran for at least 95 yards, with three 100-yard games.
Sure, he struggled in the Bears playoff loss at the New Orleans Saints, but that shouldn’t be a concern.
I’ll take Montgomery as my RB2 any day of the week, grabbing him as early as Round 3, depending upon my draft position, and I’ll be happy, especially in PPR.
I am not scared by the team’s RB depth with Tarik Cohen, Williams and Herbert. I think the Bears should be smart enough to know they have a potential star in Montgomery, and they’ll keep feeding him.
