Falcons add Florida corner in Touchdown Wire’s new mock

The Atlanta Falcons created both cap space and a need for a starting corner when they released Desmond Trufant last week. It may have been a necessary move for a team trying to get out of a two-year streak of seven-win seasons.

Signing Todd Gurley and Dante Fowler Jr. frees up Atlanta to take one of several talented defensive backs in the 2020 draft. In Touchdown Wire’s latest mock draft, Doug Farrar gives the Falcons Florida defensive back C.J. Henderson.

Here’s what Farrar had to say about the talented Gators defender:

He’s played at a very high level over the past three seasons, excelling both in coverage in man and zone concepts, both outside and in the slot. He gave up a few deep shots in 2019 as he worked through an ankle injury, but his 2018 tape is about as clean as you’ll see in this cornerback class.

The Falcons did re-sign backup Blidi Wreh-Wilson, but that won’t be enough to replace Trufant, who served as the team’s No. 1 corner for the past five seasons.

Expect Atlanta to add a corner in either free agency or the first two rounds of the draft to replace Trufant.
