Fab Four: Selecting Tennessee football’s Mount Rushmore of all-time recruits

On the eve of early signing day, Vols Wire recalls the most hyped commits in school history.

Coming out of high school, Eric Berry was the No. 1 cornerback in the country and the No. 3 overall prospect in Georgia.

The five-star signed with Tennessee in the class of 2007, and he was an immediate star as a freshman. Berry led all SEC freshmen in tackles with 86 and added five interceptions, helping the Vols win the SEC East.

As a sophomore, he recorded seven interceptions for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2009, Berry played for head coach Lane Kiffin and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. He recorded 87 tackles, two interceptions and defended nine passes on his way to winning the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s top defensive back.

During his collegiate career, Berry intercepted 14 passes and returned them for 494 yards.

He was a five-time Pro Bowler with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he won NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2015 following his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
