Fab Four: Selecting Tennessee football’s Mount Rushmore of all-time recruits

On the eve of early signing day, Vols Wire recalls the most hyped commits in school history.

Casey Clausen

Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen (7) releases a pass during action Saturday in Neyland Stadium. Tennessee beat Marshall 34-24.

Nicknamed “The Iceman,” Clausen will always have a special place in Tennessee football history for the success he had on the road against UT’s biggest rivals.

From California, Clausen graduated from Bishop Alemany High School in 2000 as a five-star prospect and the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in his recruiting class.

He took over starting duties during his freshman season in 2000, leading the Vols to a 20-10 win over Alabama.

Clausen was undefeated against Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Kentucky, and he went 2-2 against Florida in his Tennessee career. Clausen’s two wins over Florida were both in Gainesville.

The former Vol was 3-1 against Alabama, including a 51-43 five-overtime win over the Crimson Tide in 2003.

Clausen was 14-1 on the road as Tennessee’s starting quarterback and 34-10 overall.

He threw for nearly 10,000 yards, scored 81 total touchdowns and had 15 interceptions during his four years in Knoxville. The former Vol is the head coach at his alma mater, Bishop Alemany, in Mission Hills, California.
