The Best That Never Was.

Marcus Dupree’s story has been told and shown through the “30-for-30” series by ESPN. Barry Switzer is on record saying Dupree was the best recruit he ever signed.

That’s what happens when schools such as Oklahoma, Texas and other blue blood programs stake out the home of Dupree in Philadelphia, Mississippi. His recruitment has been documented by ESPN and in a book that was released in the mid-1980s.

The Sooners got their hands on Dupree in 1982, and it did not take long for his impact to be felt. He rushed for 1,144 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman, averaging 7.8 yards a carry. Halfway through his sophomore year, Dupree left Oklahoma and went home to Mississippi.

Dupree received a shot in the NFL, but it didn’t last long. Five years after playing two years in the USFL, he made his NFL debut with the Los Angeles Rams in 1990. Dupree’s NFL career last two years before he retired.
