It has finally happened. Former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott has been released by the Dallas Cowboys according to multiple reports. A former two-time league rushing champion, Elliott has spent his career with the Cowboys since being taken in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft.
Elliott had one whale of an entry into the NFL. He was one of the best backs in the league during his first few years, but his production has tailed off and he even fell behind Tony Pollard on the depth chart this season. He went through a highly publicized holdout in the 2019 offseason but eventually signed a massive contract.
For his seven year career thus far, Elliott has played in 103 games, rushed for 1,881 times for 8,262 yards (4.4 avg.) and totaled 68 touchdowns.

Consider this a decision based on cap space for the Cowboys. You’d have to imagine Elliott will find a home somewhere else soon. When he does, we’ll be all over it.
