In case you stepped away from your computer today, you know, to work and all, you’ve missed some drama with the status of the College Football Playoff national championship game. Long story short, reports surfaced today that Ohio State is still embattled in some COVID-19 issues and have discussed delaying the game with Alabama and the College Football Playoff. Those reports first surfaced via Alabama.com and set the world on fire.
But slow down.
According to a report from ESPN, Ohio State is still planning on playing the game on Monday. Yes, the reports of the team still dealing with COVID-19 issues appear to be real, but it’s not significant enough at this point to cause a delay to the game.
“We’re following the same protocols we followed all season long,” Smith told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg Tuesday. “We intend to play on January 11th, and we continue to communicate with the Big Ten and now the CFP, so at this point in time, we see the game being played. But who knows what tomorrow will bring? That’s COVID. We’re on track right now.”
So, there you have it. Everyone pump the brakes — especially those Alabama fans and family that seem to want to jump on Ohio State for supposedly trying to delay the game so that it’s in better shape.
