EA Sports to bring back college football video game

After a long hiatus, it looks like EA Sports is bringing back a college football video game. Dominate with Ohio State soon.

College football fans rejoice!. It was announced today that after a long hiatus, EA Sports would be bringing back its famed college gridiron video game. It’s true!

You soon will be able to hook up your favorite video game system and take The Ohio State Buckeyes all the way to the national championship and maybe win a Heisman trophy or two.

The popular game last hit store shelves in 2013 after the company had to cease production due to legalities of using college player’s names and likeness. Thus, the new version may look different than many of us remember.

EA Sports is working with CLC, a collegiate licensing company to secure rights to traditions, uniforms, playbooks, and so on. However, EA will look to move forward at this time without names, images, and likenesses of real college football players. Of course, that could all change as new legislation continues to work in favor of players being paid for marketing purposes.

We also know that the game will drop the “NCAA” tag in favor of just “EA Sports College Football”. This move probably gives the gaming company a little more freedom down the road.

Unfortunately, it has already been announced that the game will not be released this year. No date was given for release, nor is it known if it will be made only for next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S. If that ends up being the case, many of us will have to upgrade our entire gaming system just to play.

Either way, we’re excited at the possibility of being able to play the game of our youth… or our middle adult years.

Ahh… I can hear it now. “E.A. Sports – It’s In The Game!”
