Dylan Crews goes No. 2 overall to the Washington Nationals as LSU makes MLB draft history

For the first time in MLB draft history, the first two picks came from the same school.

The best player in LSU history now knows where he will start his professional career.

It was widely expected that [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] would hear his name called early in Sunday night’s 2023 MLB draft, and that is exactly what happened. Crews was selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Nationals.

For the first time in MLB draft history, the first two picks came from the same school after the Pittsburgh Pirates took [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] with the first pick.

Crews finished his career at LSU with a .380 batting average. He had 43 doubles, eight triples, 58 homers and 184 RBI. Crews would have been a high draft pick out of high school but he chose to go to school instead. After three years, he brought a championship home to Baton Rouge. He accomplished his goals as an LSU Tiger.

Crews was named the 2023 Golden Spikes Award winner, the 2023 SEC Player of the Year, the 2023 ABCA Gold Glove team, as well as many other accolades. Crews will be sent to the minor leagues and work his way up to the majors. Hopefully, we will see him sooner rather than later.
