Rejoice Buckeye fans, former Heisman finalist Dwayne Haskins is back with an NFL team. After a failed two-year experiment with the Washington Football Team, in which Haskins was taken as the No. 15 overall player, he was released. He then cleared waivers because of the hefty price tag still associated with a first-round entry contracted player and became a free agent.
And now, Haskins is officially a Pittsburgh Steeler, signing a futures contract with the team on Thursday. That basically means the same as a standard contract, but won’t count against the salary cap until the start of the next football season. Futures contracts are also typically worth less money but guarantee a player is locked in through the next training camp so that they can’t be poached by other teams.
So, now that Haskins has a new lease on life, it’s up to him to not pull stunts like taking selfies with fans while games are still ongoing, and definitely not going out to crowded clubs without a mask on during a global pandemic. In short, he’s got a little growing up to do, so hopefully he’s learned some hard lessons.
At least we know Haskins still has the Buckeye blood going for him as he attended the ceremony wearing an Ohio State mask.

For Haskins to land with the Steelers is a pretty slick spot to be in. Obviously, Ben Roethlisberger is watching the last sands of the hourglass fall through on his career, and if Haskins can impress both on and off the field, he just might still find a way to make this whole NFL thing work.
I hate to say it as a Browns fan, but Haskins does look pretty good in that black and gold.
