Raise your hand if you’re surprised by this development.

Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been released by the Washington Football Team. This comes on the heels of some questionable behavior off the field by the former Heisman finalist, coupled with some sketchy play on it.

Despite being named the starter and captain entering the 2020-2021 season, Haskins didn’t perform up to the coaching staff’s expectations and was benched in favor of Alex Smith a few games into the season. He seemed to get a second-life when Smith had to sit out because of injury, but that too was short-lived. Haskins had a pretty disastrous last couple of games if we’re being honest.

But it was an outside the lines move that probably irked the Washington brass more. Just when things seemed to be turning the corner for Haskins, he was captured in photos at a crowded strip-club without any sort of face-covering on. That move could have obviously derailed many on the team because of the coronavirus pandemic. Haskins was stripped of being a captain, and that was followed up with some very subpar performances.

Now, it appears, Haskins will have to hold out hope that another team will want to take a chance on him, and it could be a tough sell. He’s got some growing up to do, and the results on the field so far haven’t screamed for others to take a chance on him.

We’ll follow this story if anything further comes of it. Like many Buckeye fans, we hope Haskins lands on his feet and gets another opportunity with another team soon.
