Draft Wire’s latest mock draft following flurry of trades

Former Oklahoma Sooners center Creed Humphrey finds himself protecting a Heisman winner in the NFL.

Draft Wire released their latest mock draft with one former Oklahoma Sooner selected in the first two rounds. This comes after chaos ensued with the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia Eagles all were involved in trades in the top 15. The Eagles traded out of the top 10 which likely signals that they will stick with former Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts at the top.

Luke Easterling of Draft Wire tries to make sense of all the chaos:

The Miami Dolphins traded back from No. 3 to No. 12 with the San Francisco 49ers, then back up to No. 6 with the Philadelphia Eagles, adding more future picks and still giving themselves a chance to land one of this year’s top non-QB prospects.

The 49ers are expected to target a quarterback after their bold move up the board, while the Eagles appear to be rolling with Jalen Hurts for the 2021 season, trading back and acquiring an extra first-round pick in next year’s draft to keep building around last year’s second-round selection.

What does the early landscape look like after these big moves? Here’s my updated take on how the first two rounds of this year’s draft could shake out:

Pick 02.38: Creed Humphrey, Cincinnati Bengals

Last season the Cincinnati Bengals watched their No. 1 pick Joe Burrow take punishment all season long. Before it was all said and done, Burrow would see his rookie campaign come to an end too early due to injury. He needed reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL, MCL, and other structural issues but they are confident he can return by season’s kickoff.

What better way to protect your quarterback than to take an offensive lineman. After taking Oregon’s Penei Sewell at the top of the first round, the Bengals double up on offensive lineman with Creed Humphrey in the second round. Humphrey would likely compete immediately with current starter Trey Hopkins. Hopkins is currently going into year two of his three-year deal that he signed last season.
