DRAFT STOCK: WR John Metchie III moves into first-round conversation

John Metchie quietly rising up draft boards!

Former Alabama wide receiver John Metchie III entered the 2021 season as the most experienced member of the wide receiving corps for the Crimson Tide. As the season progressed, Metchie shared the WR1 spotlight with first-year transfer from Ohio State, Jameson Williams.

Metchie’s season was cut short after he tore his ACL in the SEC Championship game win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

When the 2021 season concluded, many fans and analysts wondered whether Metchie would decide to return for one final season. He did not. Metchie declared for the 2022 NFL draft and chose to leave the final year of eligibility on the table.

A torn ACL late in the season originally seemed to hinder Metchie’s draft stock, but it has seemingly reversed course just a month into the offseason.

Luke Easterling of The Draft Wire predicts Metchie will be drafted No. 49 overall by the New Orleans Saints.

Metchie’s spot at No. 49 overall is close to the first round, but not quite there yet. Other mock drafts have begun moving the former Alabama wide receiver into the first round.

Zack Patraw of Sports Illustrated and Mike Mulhern of NBC Sports Philadelphia both have Metchie being drafted at No. 32 overall.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow mock drafts and projections pertaining to former Alabama players entering the 2022 NFL draft.
