Dolphins open with 25/1 odds to win Super Bowl LVI

The 2020/2021 NFL season has barely come to a close and yet it seems as though we just can’t seem to help ourselves — everyone is ready to start talking about Super Bowl LVI already. Football is king, after all.

There’s a lot of changes that need to take place between now and then — and every team is the league is going to look drastically different than what they did when they closed the season; the Dolphins included. But it seems as though the betting money is getting behind the Dolphins making the most of their 2021 offseason. Because as the money starts to flow on early bets for next year’s Super Bowl, you won’t have to scroll very far to find the Dolphins on the list.

According to BetMGM, the Miami Dolphins are tied for the 10th-best odds in all of football to win next year’s Super Bowl. Please do not adjust your screen; that is not a typo. Miami checks in at 25/1 odds, tied with the Cowboys, Colts, Browns and Titans. Some notable teams the Dolphins are given better odds than include the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots.

Furthermore, only the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs are given better odds from the AFC — meaning Miami has ample respect relative to the potential playoff field in the conference.

That’s quite the departure from last offseason, when the Dolphins lingered among the bottom five teams in Super Bowl odds throughout the first month of the 2020 season and into October after a 1-3 start. The challenge for Miami will be channeling their late-season success and starting the year faster in year three under Brian Flores. Miami’s splits through each “quarter” of their two seasons under Flores tell quite the story:

Games 1 through 4: 1-7 record

Games 5 through 8: 5-3 record

Games 9 through 12: 5-3 record

Games 13 through 16: 4-4 record

Miami carrying a better start into the heart of the season will go a long way in this team seeing their hopes of a championship start to take shape. But given Miami’s 10 wins this season and no playoffs, we’d like to just ask for a playoff berth first and let the rest sort itself out from there.
