Does Michigan basketball lead for 2020 CA 5-star?

The Wolverines might be the team to beat for the 5-star shooting guard out of California.

Michigan already has one five-star in the fold for 2020, with Isaiah Todd pledging to the maize and blue last fall. But are the Wolverines in line for another?

It’s starting to look that way, with Michigan seemingly trending for Lakewood (CA) Mayfair five-star Joshua Christopher, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound shooting guard in the 2020 class.

While UCLA did have a seeming advantage for their in-state product, eyes turned towards Juwan Howard and the Wolverines as of Jan. 8, when 247Sports director of basketball scouting Jerry Meyer put in his prediction for Christopher to end up in Ann Arbor. That’s only gained steam, with perhaps some more enticing 247Sports Crystal Balls coming in on Tuesday.

Christopher’s 247Sports Crystal Ball went from a decided UCLA advantage to all-tied up with four a piece for both the Bruins and the Wolverines, as The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb and Josh Henschke both putting their predictions in that Christopher would end up in Ann Arbor. Both local prognosticators are 100% in their Crystal Ball predictions.

And, Henschke also noted, his intel comes from a different place than Webb’s.

With Todd, Zeb Jackson, Hunter Dickinson, Terrance Williams and Jace Howard all in the fold, Michigan is looking at potentially bringing in a special class in Juwan Howard’s first full year. Getting a player of Christopher’s caliber could put it over the top.
