Does Dominick Barlow have a future with the San Antonio Spurs? According to Pounding the Rock’s Jacob Douglas, the second-year swingman very well could. “Barlow had tantalizing flashes of upside, but didn’t have a path to consistent minutes to realize that potential,” writes Douglas of the New Jersey native’s opportunities with the Spurs early in the season.

But he would eventually earn them later on in San Antonio’s 2023-24 campaign, when injuries to other frontcourt players gave him the burn he needed to show that he can cut it at this level. “Barlow has clear chops as a defender,” writes the PTR analyst.

In Douglas’ estimation, Barlow has solid switching capabilities vs. smaller, faster players. “He also showed a bit of nastiness around the basket despite being undersized,” he adds.

“He is a worker on the offensive and defensive glass, constantly putting his body on the line to save or extend possessions,” recounts, Douglas of the g-foot-9 forward.

“At worst, he’s a third big man who has promising upside. At best, he develops into Wembanyama’s long term backup.”
