Devin McCourty has wild draft plan Patriots fans could get behind

Devin McCourty explains what he would do if he chose the Patriots’ first three draft picks

Former New England Patriots safety and current NFL analyst Devin McCourty has an NFL draft scenario that will probably excite fans. Here’s a hint: the scenario deals exclusively with the offensive side of the football.

The Patriots certainly need upgrades on offense, starting with the quarterback position. The organization attended both pro days for LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye last week. They have also met with other quarterbacks throughout the pre-draft process.

But quarterback is not the only position that needs upgrades on offense.

The Patriots could also use an explosive playmaking wide receiver to help build the offense around the quarterback. Just recently, they met with UNC wide receiver Devontez Walker, while at the Tar Heels pro day.

McCourty spoke at the organization’s pre-draft event for season-ticket holders and very clearly laid out how he would handle the draft, as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

“As much as I love defense, I would love to see first round/offense, second round/offense, third round/offense. Just keep it rolling and go get offensive guys! That’s where it’s needed the most,” said McCourty.

This would certainly be a way to reignite a unit that has been dismal over the past two seasons. Although it’s probably not the way the draft is going to go, this would be a plan that many fans could get behind.
