The Bills signed safety Micah Hyde to a new contract earlier this month. That deal was a two-year extension, locking him up through 2023.
Announced on March 5, we now have some further details on the finances of Hyde’s deal via The Athletic’s Matthew Fairburn. Overall, the contract was said to be a $19.25 million extension and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the cap hit in 2020 would sit around $6.7M.
The latest numbers paint a similar picture to that, a $6.58M cap hit in 2021. Hyde’s cap hit then jumps to $9.7M the next two years.
After the NFL announced the 2021 salary cap would officially drop to $182.5M, down from $198.2M last season, it comes as little surprise that Hyde would have the small cap hit on his deal appear next season.
Rounding out the figures: Hyde gets $13.3M in guarantees with a $7.5M signing bonus.
In signing that extension, he cements the Bills’ secondary going forward. Last March, safety partner Jordan Poyer extended his deal with the Bills through 2022. Just prior to the start of the 2020 regular season, cornerback Tre’Davious White signed a new contract through 2025.
In 2020, Hyde had 70 tackles, including one for loss, five passes defended and an interception.
