Denzel Valentine reportedly signs Exhibit 10 training camp deal with Boston Celtics

Earlier reporting connecting Valentine to the Celtics appears to have been spot on.

The rumored camp invite for unrestricted free agent wing Denzel Valentine is official according to recent reporting from The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The former Michigan State player was connected to the Boston Celtics in a training camp capacity earlier this month by a report from a local TV station in Lansing, Michigan. Now Charania has related the former Maine Celtic has signed an Exhibit 10 training camp deal.

Valentine was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 14th pick of the 2016 NBA draft and played parts of four seasons with that team. He signed a multi-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021, only to be traded to the New York Knicks as part of a three-team trade. The Lansing native was waived soon after.

After a short stint with the Utah Jazz, Valentine landed in Maine with Boston’s G League team, where he finished the 2021-22 NBA season.

A career 36% shot from beyond the arc who has struggled to play a larger role at the NBA level, Valentine will be motivated to make Boston’s roster as a deep rotation option on the wing, one of the only areas of arguable weakness for the Celtics along with frontcourt depth.
