The start of the upcoming 2022 season got interesting for the Arizona Cardinals. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and later announced by the team, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has been suspended for the first six games of the season for a violation of the policy for performance-enhancing substances.
Hopkins missed the last several games of last season following a torn MCL in his knee.
He will be able to participate with the team in offseason workouts, OTAs, minicamp and training camp but must remain away from the team for the first six regular-season games for the Cardinals.
A standard positive test for a banned substance is a four-game suspension. If found to use a masking agent, it is an additional two games. Any attempt to manipulate a test is a six-game suspension.
This means Hopkins either attempted to cover up the use of the banned substance or tried to manipulate the test.
This happened in 2019 with cornerback Patrick Peterson.
