After the Arizona Cardinals couldn’t find a trade partner for receiver DeAndre Hopkins, he was released.
Now that he’s a free agent, it’s just a matter of time before he finds a new team, right?
Not so fast says a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
In an update on Hopkins, Fowler made a few notes. Of them was one relating to a “deadline.”
Hopkins is said to be in no rush. The free agent’s “hard deadline” to sign by is the start of training camp. That is not set to begin until the end of July.
Previously reports indicated the Bills and Kansas City Chiefs were interested in trading for Hopkins.
In a way, Hopkins’ deadline could be good news for both teams.
With only $1.5 million in salary cap space according to Spotrac, Buffalo has the second-least amount of space in the NFL. Only Kansas City has less.
Considering Hopkins is reportedly taking his time, if it gets closer to training camp, could his price tag get low enough for him to consider the Bills or Chiefs? It’s possible.
