Darryl Strawberry returns to East Tennessee where his professional baseball career began.

Darryl Strawberry returned to East Tennessee on Monday.

He was a speaker at the Emerald Youth Foundation in Knoxville.

Strawberry played in Major League Baseball from 1983-99 with the Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Yankees.

He won four World Series championships, was an eight-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and earned National League Rookie of the Year honors in 1983.

Strawberry was selected No. 1 overall by the Mets in the 1980 MLB draft. He debuted in professional baseball with Kingsport in the Appalachian League, playing 44 games in 1980.

Strawberry discussed his career and life at the Emerald Youth Foundation and members of the Lady Vols’ softball team were in attendance, including assistant coach Chris Malveaux.
