Daniel Jeremiah outlines the ‘perfect’ draft scenario for Giants

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah outlines what he believes would be the “perfect” 2020 NFL Draft scenario for the New York Giants.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is one of the top personnel evaluators working in media today. A former scout, he coherently spells out his thoughts on NFL Draft prospects and the teams they may end with.

Speaking with WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on the air this week, Jeremiah spoke about what he felt the best scenario would be for the New York Giants in the first round of next month’s draft.

“It makes all the sense in the world (to trade back),” Jeremiah said. “If Detroit takes (Jeff) Okudah at three and you’re there with Tua on the board at four and teams five and six both covet him, it’s a dream. It’s an absolute dream scenario because you’re going to get free picks and you’re still going to get the player you were going to take. There’s no reason not to do it. In terms of what it would cost? I would try like heck to get their second round pick.”

True. By trading one or two spots back, the Giants can only gain. They could still end up with Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons, and if he’s gone, they’ll surely get one of the top offensive tackles. Jeremiah believes that would be the optimal scenario for the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman, who needs together this draft right.

“Talking to people around the league, they’ve heard Gettleman was very enamored with Tristan Wirfs from Iowa,” Jeremiah said. “You talk about a freak at 320 pounds, ran a 4.86, jumped 35.5 inches. He’s played on the right side and the left side there at Iowa. That’s been a really good factory for offensive linemen so they’re in the same boat as the Jets. You could say, ‘man, they need some playmakers on defense’ but when you have a young quarterback, that trumps everything. You’ve got to get better up front.”

Agree. I’ll never say no to a franchise left tackle. This has to be Gettleman’s signature drafts he one that puts the Giants back on the map. By trading back, getting his man and accumulating more high picks, he can make it so.
