Cowboys could sign former LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr. for a playoff push, owner Jerry Jones says

The former Tigers star may be heading to Dallas, after all.

Former Tigers wideout [autotag]Odell Beckham Jr.[/autotag] remains a free agent, but that could be set to change.

In recent weeks, Beckham has been rumored to be making a return to the league to join a contender ahead of a playoff push. Many have speculated that team would be the Dallas Cowboys, though concerning results from a physical that cast doubt on Beckham’s chances of returning this season seemed to have slow things down.

It seems those talks have renewed, as owner Jerry Jones said his team could still likely sign Beckham for this season.

“Odell’s going to join us,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. “There’s a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I’ll look to the future. But most of it being about now.”

Beckham joined the Rams last season after he was waived by Cleveland, helping lead Los Angeles to a Super Bowl win. However, he tore his ACL in that game and has remained a free agent as he rehabs this season.

His health remains a question, but Jones seemed confident that Beckham could help Dallas push for a Super Bowl.

“I’m hopeful we can get into some important games and have some Deion Sanders-type results,” Jones said. “Could this be possible to have a great player like that get in two or three playoff games and make some significant plays? I think very much so. That’s not an exaggerated thought at all.”

“The great ones, the extraordinary ones, have an ability to make a play or two in game that can be the difference in a world championship or not,” Jones said. “It’s kind of against the principles of all the practices, the repetition that you do for football. It’s against that. But the reality is, it happens. That’s been my motivation.”

Only time will tell what the future holds for the future LSU star, but it seems that joining the Cowboys may still be a possibility on the table.
